AMETHYST PURPLE DRUZE QUARTZ WITH CALCITE FORMATION

No. 46

Place of origin: Artigas – Uruguay

Geological period: Cretaceous

Age: 120-140 million years old

Dimensions: H 15cm x W 12cm x D 10cm

This delightful mineral sculpture has an unusual shape, formed of an almost complete geode, whose frontal portion wraps around like an arm, protecting the attractive “calcite” formation at its centre. The calcite is very clear and allows us to see the beautiful combination of colours behind. The edges are polished, revealing a vibrant combination of grey-blue agate, green celadonite, red-pink jasper and white quartz that frames the amethyst. To further add to its beauty, the piece is covered with a “blanket” of white quartz which enhances and gives sparkle to the piece. The back of the piece maintains its rough basalt condition allowing us to imagine how the piece formed inside the cavities of volcanic rock, millions of years ago. A good decorative size and nicely displayed on a custom metal stand.
